Is the service free?
The software is released under the GNU, General Public License. What this means in simple terms, is that the program is Open Source, and the source code must be made available (released) to anyone who requests it in part, or in whole from any given author releasing under that license. That being said, The fees that are associated with Ares are likely administered toward the developmental costs and other payroll costs, such as the salaries of the technical support staff that make themselves available day and night to offer their expertise on issues members might be facing at any time.
